When a patient is thought to have a hernia, contact the Hernia Center immediately. We do our best to accomodate patients within a 24 hour period, however, there are times when circumstances do not permit us this time frame and we will do all we can to ensure the patient is seen as soon as possible. Once we meet with the patient, we examine them to determine if the hernia is work-related or not. If the hernia is work-related we then determine where the liability for the injury lies - with the employer or the employee. By identifying non-work related hernias and other abdominal injuries, we are able to decrease worker's compensation abuses early and effectively.
If the patient is diagnosed with a hernia, surgery can be scheduled and performed within 24 hours, if needed, even in non-emergency situations. Our rehabilitation program begins the first day after surgery, at no additional cost to the employee or employer as we are able to effectively educate our patients on body mechanics so they learn how to properly lift, etc. We have found this not only benefits the patient in the long run, but allows our patients to return to work sooner with less disability, resulting in increased productivity.
